How to choose the Right Frames for your Face

So you’ve just been told you need glasses, and have no idea where to begin? Choosing frames can be a daunting task, and without the help of an experienced professional, you could end up choosing a frame that doesn’t fit, doesn’t feel comfortable, or doesn’t give you the best vision. 

An experienced frame stylist or Dispensing assistant, will consider multiple factors when helping you choose frames best suited for you, but its always a good idea for you as the customer to be aware of these too in order to help make the frame selection process a little easier. 

1. Face shape - Generally, the shape of your face gives us a great starting point as to what frame style we start with. To choose the right glasses for your face, identify your face shape and elect frames that contrast or complement its features. For example, if you have a a square face, opt for rounded frames; and with a round face, angular frames would provide a good contrast. 

2. Frame size - Prioritising comfort is crucial when It comes to frames. Ensuring the frames sit properly on your nose and don’t pinch your temples will avoid discomfort with wear over time and remove the need for constant adjustments. Ideally, the width of the frame should align with the width of your face, and the lenses should be centred over your pupils. 

3. Your prescription - If you have a high prescription or are needing multifocal lenses (eg progressives or bifocals), your frames should accommodate this by being a certain vertical depth or being lightweight and smaller to balance heavier and thicker lenses. Your experienced dispensing technician should be advising you on this and taking frame measurements to ensure this is ticked off!

4. Your lifestyle - If you tend to be quite hard on your glasses and have an active lifestyle, it may be best to choose frames made of stronger and more durable materials. 

Whatever your face shape, you can be sure the perfect frame does exist! Trying to pick one out of a lineup can feel impossible, but the whole process can be made a lot less stressful (perhaps even fun!) if you have followed these function and fashion tips.
